My recipe for Ninja Pressure Cooker Ham (Gammon) is a fabulous way to cook a large joint of ham, or gammon, in just 1 hour.
For Easter, Summer Buffets and Christmas
My recipe for Ninja Pressure Cooker Ham (Gammon) is a fabulous way to cook a large joint of ham, or gammon, in just 1 hour.
Still meltingly tender and infused with aromatics, this method is not just quick, but it saves on energy costs too.
You can cook this in a standard pressure cooker, as well as a Ninja Multi Cooker, or an Instant Pot Multi Cooker.
It’s bascially my traditional Baked Ham recipe, but cooked in a fraction of the time. Serve this ham for Easter lunch, with lots left over for sandwiches, salads, soups and stews.
We love ham as served part of a Sunday Tea Tray Supper, or for a midweek tea; served with boiled eggs, and homemade bread,
It’s also wonderful when served with homemade chunky chips, as part of ham, egg and chips, which was my late dad’s favourite.
I’ve shared the recipe for this Ninja Pressure Cooker Ham (Gammon) below, you can of course still make it in the traditional way, if you don’t have a multi-cooker or a pressure cooker.
For a main meal, serve this with parsley sauce, peas and mashed potatoes for a hearty meal that is sure to please all the family.
Do let me know if you make this and how you served it. Don’t forget that a cooked ham or gammon is the joint that keeps on giving, so why not check out my ham archives for recipe ideas, such as Potted Ham.

Ingredients
- 2kg Ham or Gammon joint
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 onion, peeled and cut in half
- 6 cloves, pressed into the onion halves
- 1 carrot, peeled and cut in half
- 10 black peppercorns
- 2 star anise
- Water
Instructions
- Place the ham or gammon in the Ninja Foodi pot, or the inner pot of the pressure cooker, Instant Pot.
- Add the bay leaves, onion & cloves, carrot, peppercorns and star anise.
- Add water to JUST cover the ham or gammon. NB: Make sure the water DOES NOT EXCEED the maximum amount of liquid allowed - there is a mark in the inner pot that shows this.
- Close the lid, move the steam pressure valve to the seal position, and lock the lid.
- Set to PRESSURE COOKING function setting. Select HIGH and set the time for 60 minutes. (Allowing 15 minutes per 500g. 2kg = 60 minutes)
- Press START.
- When the cooking has finished, allow to release the pressure slowly. Once it is safe to open the lid once the pressure has all been released, (some models will tell you this) open the lid.
- If you are not serving the ham or gammon hot, I like to leave it in the cooking liquor, as it keeps it moist. If serving hot, lift out with tongs, drain and carve in slices to serve.
Notes
You can cook a smaller joint, it is is 15 minutes per 500g.
Adjust the aromatics to taste; celery is often added.
Smoked or unsmoked ham/gammon is cooked exactly the same way.
Cook in apple juice or cider for an added flavour.
Can be baked with a glaze after cooking: Spoon some marmalade, honey or Demerara sugar over the meat and bake for 15 to 20 minutes in a hot oven, 200C/400F/Gas mark 6.
