11 Tips for Winter Travel to Sunny Destinations – If you’re looking to escape the cold and would rather spend the winter enjoying some sun and warmth, then it can be done!
Whilst some people love the winter and snow, others don’t. And, they would rather spend their winters in warm, sunny locations, away from the freezing cold. If you’re looking to escape the cold and would rather spend the winter enjoying some sun and warmth, then it can be done.
There are parts of the world where there’s abundant sunshine, perfect weather, and everyday warmth for sunseekers during the winter. So, you can escape shovelling snow out of the driveway, freezing whenever you step out of the house, and being housebound because of snowstorms.
Once it’s winter, why not head out to your preferred warm location and have lots of fun during the holidays. In this article, we’ll share some of the best winter travel tips that you’ll need for your vacation in sunny destinations.
Book Your Accommodation Early
You’ll need to do this as early as possible. For many travel destinations, there’ll be more hotels available than Airbnb units (for guests who prefer the amenities of a real home) in the winter.
This is because, unlike the summer where some of them would have travelled to other cities and leased their homes on Airbnb, people tend to stay at home during the winter season.
Nevertheless, you might still find few Airbnb properties available because their owners either travelled elsewhere or just prefer to earn some holiday money by leasing their property. This way, you can enjoy cooking your own delicious meals while you’re holidaying. And if you’ve got family and loved ones with you, you can have a festive Christmas celebration. Whatever the case, check for the variety of accommodation options that you can use.
Ensure You’re Properly Vaccinated
With a new strain of coronavirus raging, it is important to get vaccinated. Many countries won’t allow entry to unvaccinated individuals. And even when they do, they’ll place you on at least one week quarantine – which negates the entire point of a winter escape.
Why spend several weeks in quarantine when you can spend that time exploring the tourist attractions in your preferred travel destination. Also, even when you have been vaccinated, make sure to still keep those masks on when you’re outside, away from your accommodation. Some countries and cities still have strict mask regulations.
If they don’t, it’s just better to have the mask on. Apart from wearing your masks, remember to take all necessary precautions. Be careful about touching your face, minimise contact with common surfaces like hotel lobby desks or public armchairs, and do your best to spend most of your time in open spaces.
Have Adequate Travel Insurance
Speaking of health and safety again, make sure you take out adequate travel insurance. This has become even more important with the rather unpredictable nature of transportation caused by the spikes in coronavirus infections.
Flights can get cancelled, countries can ban flights to and from certain countries as seen recently, airports may prevent passengers from disembarking, you or a loved one may fall ill on the trip… anything can happen.
The point is, it’s better to have the protection that a travel insurance policy carries than to be stranded without any recourse. The right insurance plans can cover travel-related expenses and emergencies, for hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Remember, we’re not looking to scare you from travelling, it’s just that you need to be better prepared given the current state of the world.
Pack Comfortable Clothing
Even if it’s already winter in your location, remember that you’re travelling to a sunny destination, many of which have t-shirt and shorts weather. However, remember that the winter sun doesn’t necessarily mean warmth.
So, carry a few layers and jackets just in case it’s sunny but still cold. This particularly applies if you’re not travelling to the tropics, islands, or places with lots of beaches.
Also, unless you’ll be staying at these locations for the entire duration of winter, take some of your jackets along. This way, you will be prepared when you get back to your home in the middle of winter.
Research Sunny Winter Travel Destinations
There are many sunny travel destinations that are open to tourists during the winter. From parts of Europe to South America, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean locations, you have many options. This is why you need to choose the right locations.
A trip to somewhere in the Southern hemisphere is likely to be more expensive, but you’re more guaranteed hot weather (our winter is their summer).
Somewhere like Australia could be perfect for a sunny getaway – from scuba diving courses to lazing around on the beach, there are so many ways to enjoy an adventure down under.
Alternatively, you could enjoy a safari in South Africa or hit the beaches of Rio de Janeiro.
