This savoury quick bread is easy to make, and is wonderful when served buttered.
Perfect for Sunday Afternoon Tea
Cheese, Walnut & Apple Tea Bread – This savoury quick bread is easy to make, and is wonderful when served buttered with extra cheese on the side.
Serve this with soup and stews, as well as toasted for a late night supper dish – it also makes a great sandwich too.
I used English russet apples in this recipe, but please use any seasonal apples local to you.
I’ll be serving this as part of my Sunday Tea Tray Supper along with sandwiches, salad, scones, crisps and tangerines.
This recipe for Cheese, Walnut & Apple Tea Bread is similar to my Cheese & Onion Scone Loaf, but with added walnuts and apples of course.
I’ve actually used this tea loaf to make sandwiches, and it also makes fabulous toast too, almost tasting like cheese on toast.
Culinary Notes
Use any full flavoured hard cheese such as Vintage or Extra Mature Cheddar, Comte, Red Leicester, Lincolnshire Poacher etc.
Use any seasonal apples local to you – eating apples work best.
For an extra kick, add 1/2 teaspoom cayenne pepper or chilli powder.
Chopped spring onions or chopped chives can be added if you omit the apple.
For a non-vegerian meat version, add some fried bacon lardons, or chopped ham.

This looks lovely – so long since I have made a savoury quickbread. I have tried a cheese and apple cake but it was too sweet so I think I like the savoury version of this combination better.
