Thrifty Store-Cupboard Recipes using Tinned, Dried & Frozen Ingredients

It’s true to say that times are tough right now; energy prices are going up and up, food is getting more expensive and it’s hard to know how to feed your family sometimes, with tasty and nutritious food.

I have always lived in a rural area, so I’ve always relied heavily on my freezer, as well as my store-cuoboard for ingredients. Items such as tinned beans, tinned timatoes and even tinned meats are so handy to have to hand.

I tend buy reduced items (yellow sticker items) when I see them, for the freezer, and I try to source local eggs, as they are usally cheaper. (currently £1 for 1/2 dozen) I also batch bake and cook in bulk, to save on energy costs and to feed my freezer!

Other ways to save on fuel and energy bills is to use those handy kitchen appliances, such as crockpots (slow cookers), pressure cookers and multi-cookers.

I hardly ever turn the oven on now, unless I am baking or cooking several things – such as bread, cakes, tarts & flans, pasta bakes, casseroles and pies etc.
