The 2nd of April is NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY DAY. A day when all PB & J sandwich lovers can rejoice in the fact that they can eat these iconic American sandwiches all day long, if they so wish!
My recipe for Peanut Butter & Jelly Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a fabulous combination of flavours. Made with homemade sourdough bread, cheese slices, blueberry jam and SKIPPY® Super Crunch Peanut Butter, it’s a new classic.
Not only is today’s recipe for Peanut Butter & Jelly Grilled Cheese Sandwich extremely tasty, but is also made with handy store cupboard ingredients too.
This is particularly handy for the current “lock-down” situation we all find ourselves in. And, most people will have a jar of peanut butter in their store cupboards, as well as jam, cheese and bread.
The combination of peanut butter, jam and cheese may seem a little unusual, but it works extreme well together. The saltiness of the peanut butter marries so well with the jelly, (jam) and the cheese is the melted cheesy icing on the cake!
This Peanut Butter & Jelly Grilled Cheese Sandwich is the perfect recipe for the children, whilst they are at home. As well as a fabulous late night snack whilst watching a film or your favourite soap on the television.
What’s the difference between Grilled Cheese and a Cheese Toastie?
Well, nothing at all! A grilled cheese is the American or North American name for a British cheese toastie, or a toasted sandwich. And furthermore, the American grilled cheese is NOT grilled either, but is fried. Simples!
What is the difference between Jelly and Jam?
This is a bit more complex to explain! Jelly in British English is a fruit dessert made with gelatin called jelly! BUT, it’s also a jam with NO discernible pieces of fruit too. Whereas jelly in the States is nearly always JAM. And, what we call jelly is called JELLO!
My husband loves peanut butter. He also loves my homemade sourdough and jam, and cheese. So this was his dream sandwich. I find it’s best to buy a quality peanut butter, and SKIPPY® Peanut Butter certainly fits the bill.
Today’s recipe for Peanut Butter & Jelly Grilled Cheese is shared below. Just in time for National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. PLEASE do let me know if you make it, and if you enjoyed it, Karen

this reminds me somewhat of my chidlhood friend’s sandwiches of thick rye bread with cheese and jam. it seemed very exotic back then.
Karen Burns-Booth says
It is a great combination, and I love rye bread, so nutty and full of flavour.
