A Photo Diary from Newfoundland:
Chocolate, Buns & Cod Tongues…..
Hello from St John’s in Newfoundland – as regular Lavender and Lovage readers will know, I am here for a week courtesy of the Canadian Tourism Commission and the Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism board; I landed here just over a day ago and I have already had the most amazing time and have met some wonderful people…….MORE about that in some dedicated blog posts when I get home, but for now, I am going to share a regular “Photo Diary” with some of the images I have taken on this fabulous trip. So, do keep popping back for my Photo Dairy posts and enjoy Newfoundland with me, that’s the people, scenery and food. As well as my photo diary here, please DO follow my adventures on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter with the hash tag #AtlanticCanadaEats and #ExploreCanada That’s it for today, I’ll see you later and I hope you enjoy this “virtual” tour of St John’s and all the food and places I’ve visited thus far. See what I mean about the problem with not liking eating fish in Newfoundland – it’s everywhere! An absolutely paradise for fish-lovers, though. the freshest imaginable.
I did try a cod’s tongue, just because I wanted to try something some typical of Newfoundland. If I remember correctly, they’re actually cod’s cheeks?
Oh, that bread and the homemade pickles and preserves, not forgetting the chocolates, all look much more like my cup of tea. Speaking of which, I didn’t know they had teacakes over there. Probably thanks to all of the British people who went to live there. I do remember have an odd form of sage and onion stuffing, which was dry and crumbly and which the locals called “seasoning”.
Although I’m not a fish lover, I must say that everything looks beautiful on the plates – very nicely done.
I’m so jealous – wish I was there too. Now you’ll understand why I said that it’s one of my most favourite places ever.
Can’t wait to read more, Karen. You’re going to have such a fabulous time! 🙂

Newfoundland is a place I have always wanted to go, so you are living my dream – and with food laid on! I did my Master’s with a ‘Newfie’ and she is the nicest person, with a dry sense of humour that I understand is characteristic of the area. I just know you are being treated very well – certainly never hungry. I look forward to more photos over the week. Have fun!

Call me jealous right now because every single photo you posted in this article made my mouth water. That chowder looked absooooolutely perfect (as did all the dishes). I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay there and look forward to hearing about and seeing more pics of your adventures in Newfoundland. Cheers (and make sure to drink lots of Screech)!
